American and British people both speak English of course. But sometimes it does not seem like the same language. In fact, there are some important differences between British English and American English. First of all, they sound very different. Often, Americans don't say each word separately. They say several words together. Americans may say “I dunno” instead of “I don't know”. Or they may say “Whaddya say?” instead of “What did you say?” However, the British are more careful in their speech. They usually say all the words and keep them separate. Sound is not only the difference between British English and American English. Words sometimes have different meanings too. Some American words are never used in England. The same thing is true of some British words in America. For example, the vocabulary for cars and driving is very different. Americans drive trucks, but in England people drive lorries. Many expressions are also different in the two countries. In England, if you are going to telephone your friends, you “phone them up”. In America, you “give them a call”. When you are saying goodbye in England you might say “Cheerio!” In America you might say “See you later.” There're also some differences in grammar. For example, Americans usually use the helping verb “do” when they ask a question. They say “Do you have a storybook?” But the British often leave out the helping verb. They say “Have you a storybook?” All these differences can be confusing if you are learning English. But most languages are like this. Languages change over time. When people live in separate places, the languages change in different ways. This is what has happened to English. It can also happen to other languages, such as French. Many people in Canada speak French but their French is very different from the French of France.

美国人也许会说“I dunno”来替代“I don't know”【发音变化】;或说“Whaddya say?” 来替代“What did you say?”。然而 ,英国人在他们说话更加谨慎细心。他们说话时会把每个词都分开说,说全。
英式英语和美式英语不仅仅发音不同,单词有时也会有不同的意思。一些美式单词绝不会在英国使用,这种情况对于一些英式单词来说也是适用的。例如,两国关于汽车和驾驶的词汇是非常不同的。美国人开trucks,但英国人开lorries。许多短语在这两个国家也不同。在英国,如果你要给你的朋友电话,你会说 “phone them up”. 在美国,你说 “give them a call”. 当你在英国说再见时,你也许会说 “Cheerio!” 在美国,你说“See you later.”
两国语言在语法上也有一定的差异。例如,美国人在他们问问题时通常会使用助动词“do” 。他们说“Do you have a storybook?” 但英国人经常【遗漏/不用】助动词。他们说 “Have you a storybook?”
以上这些差异都可能使你在学习英语时产生困惑,但大多数语言都是这样的,语言随着时间的推移而变化。当人们生活在不同的地方,语言会以不同的方式变化。这样的事也发生在英语身上。也会发生在其他语言身上,如法语;在加拿大,很多人说法语,但他们所说的法语和法国人所说的法语有着显著的不同。本回答被网友采纳
