Good afternoon everyone. It is a great honor for me to stand here and read the poem for you. This poem is from one of my favorite writers: Hai Zi. He wrote this poem on January 13th, 1989, just two months before he committed suicide by lying on the rail. This incident strengthens the contrast between the literal joy and oppressively real intention. And because of this poem, we can stand the chance to know his thinking about the meaning of life. This poet, who sang the songs for the world with his deep heart, always longed for being far from the madding crowd and hearing the beautiful echoes of peace. He didn’t belong to the secular world. And he tried to get rid of these unspiritual burdens and traps in his lifetime. Here I would like to share this beautiful but sad poem with all of you.
