请问Oil是用单数还是用复数

oil在什么情况下用单数，在什么情况下用复数oils？
比如说空气压缩机油是用单数还是复数？基础油是用单数还是复数？

Oil是不可数名词，可数名词才有单复数的分别；
不可数名词: 是指不能直接以数字计算，一般只作单数，无复数，泛指时不用冠词。一般把不可数名词看成整体一。
物质名词属于不可数名词，一般没有复数形式，如：
water水 milk牛奶 tea茶 coffee咖啡
chicken鸡肉 ink墨水 oil 油 sand沙
区分可数名词和不可数名词，单纯依靠数数的方法并不十分准确。由于语言的差异，在名词的可数概念上，英语同汉语并不完全一致。如：单词fish当"鱼肉" 讲时是不可数名词，当"几条鱼"讲时是可数名词。
可数名词有单数和复数形式，在表示一个或一种事物时用单数，当表示两个或两个以上时用复数，通常在单数形式后加-s或-es。
如果一个名词是不可数的,那么,它前面不可以用a或an ,例:我们不能说a news，an advice， 而说a piece of news （一条消息）, a piece of advice （一个忠告）;它没有复数形式,可用于How much的问句中: How much oil is there in the bottle?芽(瓶子里有多少油?)我们一般不在它前面直接加数词,我们不说one oil，two oil，我们用适当的单位词 (unit words)去表示它的量:one drop of oil(一滴油),two kilos of oil （两公斤油） 。

一句话，不可数名词前面不可以直接加数量词，中间还要插入一个汉语中所谓的“量词”，才可以，表示复数的标志，加在“量词”词尾。如上：two kilos of oil （两公斤油）

oil一般都是不可数名词，唯一例外的是指油画颜料的时候用复数，例如：paint in oils 画油画。你说空气压缩机油和基础油应该都用单数，即不可数名词，还有就是在一些习语当中也用单数。例如：olive oil橄榄油； burn the midnight oil 开夜车。

You use an "s" when there are more than one oil type. For example you can ask something like, "What type of oilS do you use for cooking?" If you are known to only use one type of oil, one would then ask, "What type of oil do you use for cooking?" As you probably know, "s" is used at the end of a word often to make it plural.
