London bridge is falling down在世界各地都有着不同的版本。在傲慢民歌指数它的编号是第502首。这是英国民间的童谣集鹅妈妈童谣 【Mother Goose】中的一首，创作方法是其他国家传到英国的。当中包含的民间故事在1697年被叫做“母亲鹅的故事”，且出现在短的吹牛大话或故事中。这些故事在1729年被转变为英国语。1791年的Newbery（约翰的姓）版本是最早的《鹅妈妈童谣》，也是世界最早的儿歌集。它包含了五十二首诗，和每首以一个例子说明。鹅妈妈童谣随著时间经过，内容不断扩大，包涵数百首童谣。童谣中又包含许多血腥、残酷的句子，这主要是由于鹅妈妈童谣当时黑暗的时代背景。
