either of(两者其一)，neither of(两者都不)这两个后＋单数；neither of，若of后接为不可数名词，动词用单数形式，若of后接为复数名词或代词时，动词可以是单数，也可以是复数。在正式文体中，单数形式的动词更常用。

neither 作为代词，意为“两者都不”，常用作单数，但口语中也有当作复数的情形，所以neither of+名词复数作主语时，谓语动词用单、复数都可以，不过现在多习惯用单数。

neither of结构，从语法标记看，是单数形式；而从词汇意义的角度看，亦可理解为单数概念，所以根据“语法一致原则”和“概念一致原则”，谓语动词采用单数形式，是天经地义的。
