When the Yellow Emperor to select twelve animals served as the Imperial Guard,

the cat with mouse for mice to forget, the cat did not choose, and from rat with friends.

Elephants also come, rats were drilling nose, give away, the remaining animals,

originally headed by pushing cattle, mice are up to the back of the ox and pig booing followed,

so the mouse is discharged the first, pork chops at last.

Tiger and dragon refuses to accept,

was crowned the king of Wang Hehai, in the rat and bovine behind. Rabbit and refuses to obey,

and race results ranked in the dragon's front.

The dog is uneven, angrily bit rabbits, for this was sent in second from the bottom. Snake, horse, sheep, monkey,

the chicken has also been a contest, one one scheduled position, finally formed a rat, ox,

tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkeys, chickens, dogs, pigs in the sequence.

More than 30,000 years ago, Chinese ancestors invented the 10 Tian Gan(or heavenly stems)and 12 Di Zhi(or 12 earthly branches for chronological purpose. Later, people used 12 animals to symbolize the 12 earthly branches in order to make things easier to memorize and the animals in order are the mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. You might found out that many Chinese people strongly believe that the time of a person's birth is primary factor in determining that person's characteristics. According to one legend, Buddha invited all the animals to his kingdom, but unfortunately, only a total of 12 turned up, the mouse was naturally the first, followed by the ox, then tiger, the rabbit and so on. Out of gratitude, Buddha decided to name the year after each of the animals in their order of arrival. It is essential in China that every person knows which animal sign he is born under and most of Chinese truly believe that the signs reveal the hidden secrets of a person's birth is primary factor in determining that person's characteristics. It is said Buddha (the ultimate Emperor for the whole universe in Chinese legend) once called together all the animals on the earth for an important meeting. Only twelve animals turned up: the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the sheep, the monkey, the rooster, the dog and the pig. The rat, being the smartest, jumped on top of the ox to be the first one to arrive.

As a reward, the Buddha gave each animal a year in the cycle and declared that anyone born in that year would resemble the animal in some way. In addition, each two hours of the day is also governed by one animal. The hours of 11pm to 1:00 am is by Rat, from 1 am to 3 am by Ox and so on. Six elements of the planet: wood, fire, air, water, gold and earth are also integrated into the animalZodiacsigns。
