小学英语的话题范国包括数字、颜色、时间、天气、食品、服装、玩具、动植物、身体、个人情况、家庭、学校、朋友、文体活动、节日等．
小学阶段学生接触的词汇以话题范围为主、总量控制在６００－７００单词。
3A, 3B两册主要强调听说，另外还要求掌握26个字母、约30个词语和整体认读部分词句。4A至6B六册在继续重视听说的同时，有目的、有计划地逐步增加读写内容，逐步提高读写要求。
