1、in the end的意思是经过许多变化、困难和捉摸不定的情况之后，某事才发生。

三者都可表示经过许多变化、一段等候或一番拖延或曲折之后的“最后”，但有细微区别：finally 语气较轻，且平铺直叙，一般不带感情色彩，有时可与 in the end换用；而 at last换用；而则语气稍重，且往往带有一定的感情色彩 (如不耐烦、放心、如愿等)。如：
Finally [in theend] he succeeded. 最后他成功了 (不带感情色彩----平铺直叙)。He succeeded at last. 他终于成功了 (带有感情色彩---- 欣慰或如愿等)。
in the end 可用来谈论将来的事，而其它两者一般不这样用。如：In the end things will mend. (谚语)船到桥头自然直。
