（一）词性不同
1、other是作为一个形容词来使用，表示其他的，后面可以跟名词。
如：other people 其他的人，other在这里翻译成“其他的”。
2、others可以作为一个名词性物主代词来理解，它表示其他的人或东西，后面就不能跟名词了。
如：In working with others. 在和别的人一起工作时。
others 在这里翻译成“其他的人”。
（二）单复数形式不同
the other和the others这二者都表示两个范围内的其余的或者说剩下的，而区别就是the other是单数，the others是复数。
举个例子：话说这个人有三个孩子，两个在上大学，另外一个在上小学。在用英语造这个句子的时候，后面的另外一个就可以用the other，一共三个孩子，划分两个范围，一个范围是上大学，另一个范围是上小学，而上小学的范围就一个孩子，是单数，所以用the other。
还是这个例子：话说这个人有三个孩子，一个在上大学，另外两个在上小学。后面的另外两个就用the others了，因为是复数。
