请问图中画黄线的，much in the same manner as a.....是什么结构做什么成分呢？我如果改成，which is in the same manner that...是不是也可以？谢谢

这里的much in the same manner as……是插入语，作方式状语。

插入语的作用只是附带给出额外信息或作出说明等，不能以非限制性定语从句which is in the same manner as…取代，道理就在于：既然是定语从句，就有“定”的作用在，而插入语的作用则是“给出附带信息”。

不能用which is in the same manner as…替代的另一个原因在于：much… the same… as的意思是“很像……”，改成which is…后就变成了确切的“是……”了。

1.如果非要用非限制性定语从句，可以用which is much in the same manner as…或which is in much the same manner as…。这里有无much的区别在于：有的话意思是“大致相同…”，没有的话也是“相同…”。
2.用which is (just) like…是可以的

语法上似乎可以，不过much in the same manner是方式状语，改成定语从句，不符合作者的修辞。追问

1 这句话as引导的从句中， their friends of many years和their extended family relationships这2句话是紧接from的，也就是说 是介词from的并列宾语 与前面的families不是并列的
from加后面 三个并列的 介词宾语 构成介词短语 作状语 修饰 从句中的谓语 move away
按照 你的理解 有逻辑问题 因为只有families move away from their community,能说通 后两项说不通。
2这句话中从so that到句末的这个句子我认为是修饰 in which 定语从句 的 结果状语从句
因为 与 主句谓语 has been viewed 无关。而与定从中的谓语are compensated有关
据此 就可以判断 so that 从句 修饰的对象是谁
注意该从句 是结果状语 不是目的状语 因为从句中 不含情态动词 ，所以翻译成 以至于 而不是 以便于。
