简单句:简单句有一个主语，和一个主要动词。

Who is hugging that girl?
或者2个主语和一个主要动词
The girl and the paper man love each other.
或者一个主语和2个主要动词
She is hugging him and smiling.动词是 is hugging和 is smiling
或者2个主语和2个主要动词
The paper manandthe girlare huggingeach other andsmiling.
看下下面的句子。这是一个简单句，因为它有一个主语和一个动词
The beautiful tropical gardensa cross the road from my old school were destroyed in the earthquake last month.
这句话有很多额外的东西，把它们拿掉，看看剩下了什么：
The gardens were destroyed.
不要被长句子中大量的形容词、副词和介词困扰。要了解一个句子的结构，你首先要找到动词，然后找到主语。
复合句：复合句是由2个或2个以上的简单句连接而成。
The gardens were destroyed and many houses were damaged.
The gardens were destroyed but my old school was not damaged.
The old school was not damaged so we are all relieved.
复合句是由2个或2个以上的独立的分句加上连接词构成的。
