关于新概念英语第三册 “a puma at large"的一个时态问题

就是文章的第一段中 ............the descriptions given by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar. 这里是"have seen" 再接下来就是 the hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw a large cat only five yards away from her.而这里就用 “saw”！ 自学的哈，语法搞不懂，敬请指教啊。

你好，我是大二英语专业的学生。我先给你讲下这个句子的结构，它是一个for
引导的原因状语从句，里面还有一个定语从句套着一个定语从句【[]】：
for
the
descriptions
【given
by
people[
who
claimed
to
have
seen
the
puma
]】were
extraordinarily
similar.
再说你的时态问题。其实很简单，这里的see是发生在claim之前的，当然要用比claim早的时态即完成时。
那个woman看到puma时没有发生在后面这句话里任何动词之前，当然就是用过去时。
额。。。我并不大会讲语法……见谅嘿嘿。
