常见词根“scend”表示“爬”
前缀a常见意思有 ：
①否定【如amoral】；
②强调（通常是a+重复的词首辅音）【如accelerate】；
③表示表语形容词【如alive】
ascend词义 ：
本义为“上升”
由词义倒推词根，这里我理解为强调，又有一说“a”表示“向上”，这个解释我觉得没有太多根据，不过“a”也有表方位的意思如“along”,“aside”，“away”等。
所以它的几个意思分别为：
①上升；攀登
Without a word, he began to ascend the stairs.
他没说一句话就上楼梯了。
（爬楼梯／上楼可以用ascend）
The rocket ascended into the cloud.
火箭高高飞入云端。
（火箭飞机等向上飞升可以用ascend）
②（抽象意义上）追溯，溯源；
